Your PBS for the greater Los Angeles area

What’s Your Favorite Book?

Fantasy, history, adventure, fiction, romance or drama.

Maybe you like to get lost in another world or be transported to another time; your favorite book can take you anywhere you’d like to go.

Unfortunately, too many children don’t have access to books and other resources that enrich learning and encourage reading. But you can help. PBS SoCaL has partnered with Los Angeles Universal Preschool to help get books into the hands of Southern California children. Visit the Soar with Reading website to share your favorite book and for every submission, a book will be donated to a child in need.

We here at PBS SoCaL thought recently about our favorite books. Here are a few of them:

Alyssa Torrez, Education CoordinatorTy Woodson, Broadcast Promotion Manager

Jamie Annunzio, Director of EducationAshley Strong, Research Assistant

You can also see other kids’ favorite books at the Soar with Reading website, like The Cat in the Hat and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

When you visit the Soar with Reading website there are fun PBS KIDS videos and activities. You can download and print the activity kit that includes PBS themed games. Watch a video to learn about nouns, and then print the Martha Speaks journal activity to start your very own journal. There’s even a recommended reading list for parents.

Let your imagination take flight with literacy resources this summer! PBS SoCaL will also be celebrating summer reading at the Los Angeles Central Library on August 7th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The event will include a free concert from Mr. Steve, meet and greet with PBS KIDS characters Super Why! and Hooper, literacy activities and goodies for all attendees. Register for our summer reading celebration at http://soarwithreadingla.eventbrite.com/ and watch Mr. Steve sing his Soaring with Reading song.
