Biker Group Visits the PBS SoCaL Studio

Posted by Kellee Wallace

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting a group of amazing youth from the Youth Empowerment Network, part of KidWorks building healthy communities initiative. The Youth Empowerment Network (YEN) is working to engage youth from Santa Ana to create change. At YEN, youth seek to understand the social determinants of health that are affecting their neighborhoods. As part of a health and fitness initiative called BikeIt! Santa Ana, the youth ride bicycles to all of their events. And this time they literally rolled up to our Costa Mesa studio on bicycles wearing helmets and safety reflector vests.

The bike ride to Costa Mesa from Santa Ana was for a good cause. They rode to take part in our new Career Delevopment program and studio tour. The tour showcases career and workforce development and we use our studio as a fun example of some of the careers that are available in film and television, like producers, directors, audio technicians and more!

Students learned about careers in media in our studio then headed upstairs to learn about careers in nonprofits such as special events, human resources, and fundraising. We put them to the test with an interactive game and we rounded out the tour with hands on media creation resources. it was such an enthusiastic bunch of kids who, even after biking all the way here, still had so much energy. We really enjoyed hosting YEN and had a lot of fun

You can schedule your tour and explore areers in media today!
