Catch up with PBS SoCaL!
What a busy six months! The PBS SoCaL Education team zoomed around Southern California teaching parents, educators, and kids how to play and learn with PBS SoCaL resources. Read on to learn about what we accomplished with our friends-- and how you can join the fun.
PBS SoCaL created an online STEM Resources hub where you can stream a series of webisodes that link math and science videos to an activity, a book, and an educational game. Parents and teachers can help their kids learn measurements, numbers, and patterns at home.
At Carson Street Elementary School, PBS SoCaL unwrapped a Mobile Lab full of iPads with digital learning tools. Thanks to the American Honda Foundation, the lab will be a permanent part of the curriculum with apps proven to increase vocabulary, number skills, phonetics, and more.
Nearly 5,500 parents and kids interacted with PBS SoCaL’s Mobile Lab of iPads at 21 outreach events, including the Orange County Children’s Book Festival— where Clifford the Big Red Dog himself encouraged kids to read.
PBS SoCaL led in-depth training on using digital learning tools for 658 parents and educators. The Compton Unified School District and the Boys & Girls Club of Garden Grove are just two organizations where bilingual workshops taught parents how to sustain these skills beyond the classroom. PBS SoCaL also led free professional development for family specialists at PACE Preschools, THINK Together, Project Access, and beyond
