Red, blue, red, blue, red, blue… what color comes next? RED! That’s right! Early patterning skills introduce the concepts of symmetry and beginning math vocabulary. Sorting objects and arranging them into patterns helps children build basic math skills.

And we have the perfect activity to help you start patterning with your little ones at home. Watch the latest Learning Time STEM video and then use simple objects to make patterns. Get the instructions and and get started!

When you're done, continue to look for patterns around the house. You can find patterns everywhere; on clothes and rugs and in books and magazines. Have fun with patterns and stay tuned for more STEM activities from PBS SoCaL!
