TO PBS AUDIENCES NATIONALLY

Celebrating Latinos in Media

            COSTA MESA, Calif. (September 11, 2014) – PBS SoCaL National Productions is distributing The 29th Annual Imagen Awards for broadcast on Public Television stations nationwide. The Imagen Awards encourage and reward positive portrayals of Latinos in all forms of media, and recognize the achievements of Latino celebrities in the entertainment and communications industries.

            The televised special highlights attendees, winners, and presentations from the award ceremony, hosted by breakout Latina comedian Aida Rodriguez. Special recognition went to Primetime Emmy® nominee Fred Armisen, star of Portlandia, who received the Norman Lear Writer’s Award. Also honored were Latina superstar Daisy Fuentes who received the Imagen Foundation’s President’s Award and Manny Coto co-creator, writer and producer of 24: Live Another Day, who received the Imagen’s Creative Achievement Award. The honorees were joined by stars such as Ana Ortiz, Jon Seda, Ian Gomez, Freddy Rodriguez, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Bella Thorne, Kenny Ortega, and the program features a special performance by New York’s Ballet Hispanico.

            Winners were announced at The 29th Annual Imagen Awards Gala held Friday, Aug. 1, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. PBS SoCaL was also nominated for an Imagen Award in the category of “Best On-Air Advertising” for a promotional spot recognizing “Community Champions” in Southern California.

            The 29th Annual Imagen Awards will premiere locally on PBS SoCaL, Saturday, September 27at 10 p.m. as part of Hispanic Heritage Month, and will air nationally on public broadcasting‘s WORLD Channel on Friday, October 10 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET. The special will be distributed to public television stations nationally through the National Educational Telecommunications Association and is co-produced by The Imagen Foundation and PBS SoCaL.
