IN SUPPORT OF SUMMER LEARNING
COSTA MESA, Calif. (August 8, 2014) – PBS SoCaL is distributing 500 free early-learning books to serve 2,000 children in Southern California communities, to help address the learning losses that can occur during the summer months. Thanks to a generous donation from Carson-Dellosa Publishing to PBS KIDS, the books will be distributed in partnership with Project Access atLos Angeles andOrangeCounty sites.
“When children return to school in the fall, teachers typically spend between four and six weeks re-teaching material that students have forgotten over the summer,” said Jamie Myers, PBS SoCaL VP of Education. “We know that parents are looking for ways to bridge this summer learning gap, so we are thrilled that we can provide materials that support reading and learning throughout the summer toSouthern Californiacommunities.”
All summer long, PBS SoCaL has additionally provided free PBS KIDS resources through a new summer schedule, as well as a variety of digital resources and community activities to keep families learning and exploring all summer long.
