Premiering on PBS SoCaL on March 30-April 1, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. “CANCER: THE EMPEROR OF ALL MALADIES” is a three-part, six-hour documentary directed by award-winning filmmaker Barak Goodman, executive produced by Ken Burns, and based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Siddhartha Mukherjee, M.D.  The documentary tells the story of cancer from its first documented appearances thousands of years ago through the epic battles in the 20th century to cure, control and conquer the disease. The project matches the epic scale of cancer, reshaping the way the public sees cancer and stripping away some of the fear and misunderstanding that has long surrounded it. The film interweaves a sweeping historical narrative; with intimate stories about contemporary patients; and an investigation into the latest scientific breakthroughs that may have brought us, at long last, to the brink of lasting cures.
