Oh, the weather outside is… pretty nice actually. Isn’t that why we live in Southern California?

We have many goodies to share as we wrap up 2014 with these locally originated and produced programs, presented by PBS SoCaL!


Variety Studio: Actors on Actors

It’s a celebrity-filled treat as Variety and PBS SoCaL take you inside the biggest Hollywood films of the past year through candid conversations with today’s hottest actors. Hosted by Variety Magazine Deputy Awards and Features Editor Jenelle Riley.

Episode One airs Sunday, 12/21 at 7pm

PBS favorite Benedict Cumberbatch from "The Imitation Game" and Edward Norton of "Birdman" discuss forgetting their lines, Jake Gyllenhaal from "Nightcrawler" and Patricia Arquette from "Boyhood" discover the animals in their characters, Hilary Swank from "The Homesman" and Tilda Swinton from "The Grand Budapest Hotel" reveal what has changed for each of them since winning Academy Awards®, and Oscar Isaac of "A Most Violent Year" and Gugu Mbatha-Raw from "Belle" each uncover their character’s strengths while covering up with costumes.

Episode 2 airs Sunday, 12/28 at 6pm

Mark Ruffalo from "Foxcatcher" and Jessica Chastain from "Interstellar" discuss preparation for on-screen transformation, Eddie Redmayne from "The Theory of Everything" and Laura Dern from "Wild" compare stories of finding a passion for acting at a young age, Josh Brolin from "Inherent Vice" and J.K. Simmons of "Whiplash" explain their paths to acting after starting different careers, and Kevin Costner from "Black and White" and James Corden from "Into the Woods" find they have added to their resumes with roles other than acting in the entertainment business.

Episode 3 airs Sunday, 12/28 at 7pm

Reese Witherspoon from "Wild" and Michael Keaton from "Birdman" discuss the literal and figurative journeys their characters take in recent films, Keira Knightley from "The Imitation Game" and Ethan Hawke from "Boyhood" reveal the pain of reading reviews, David Oyelowo of "Selma" and Jack O’Connell from "Unbroken" compare the parallels between their careers and recent movie roles, and Jenny Slate from "Obvious Child" and Felicity Jones from "The Theory of Everything" talk about how they still feel like impostors in the business.

Episode 4 airs Sunday, 1/4/15 at 7pm

Christoph Waltz from "Big Eyes" and Ralph Fiennes of "The Grand Budapest Hotel" discuss acting school and how it made an impact on their future performances, Jennifer Aniston from "Cake" and Emily Blunt from "Into the Woods" share a laugh over bad auditions, Marion Cotillard from "Two Days, One Night" and Timothy Spall from "Mr. Turner" reveal how they discover the truth in a performance, and Chadwick Boseman from "Get on Up" and Logan Lerman from "Fury" compare acting on the stage versus the screen.

55th Annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration

It's an award-winning family favorite as The Los Angeles County Arts Commission and PBS SoCaL bring you this special program December 24th from 3 to 6 PM live on TV and streaming online. More than 20 bands, choirs and dance companies from the many neighborhoods and cultures of the region celebrate the season! Highlights include Latin Grammy nominee Trio Ellas, Verizon How Sweet the Sound finalist Greater Los Angeles Cathedral Choir, JazzAntiqua Dance & Music Ensemble, Los Angeles Ballet, Grammy Award-winner Daniel Ho and Los Angeles Children’s Orchestra.
