PBS SoCaL visited a local Los Angeles elementary school this week with a Curious George surprise! Fifty second graders received a Curious George at the Baseball Game book and had an afternoon of curious activities. We worked hand-in-hand with The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles and their nonsectarian literacy program. KOREH L.A. staff and volunteers were thrilled to participate in something as simple, yet powerful as giving a child a book. Kids also had the chance to practice thier literacy skills by writing a letter to their favorite monkey.
At this school, the KOREH L.A. program provides nearly 100 second graders a reading opportunity with his or her 11th grade reading buddy from a nearby high school; all children being able to read at his or her own pace. Each student was able to leave school with a new, Curious George book just in time for the holidays!
