PBS SoCal is committed to helping bridge the various gaps in education in our region through accessible resources, community events, and educational programming. Why? Socio-economic conditions, failing schools, and lack of adult leadership contribute to a dropout crisis across the nation. But while high school is the “point of departure,” the process of dropping out begins in middle school – and sometimes elementary school. We want that to change.
Children who are not prepared for kindergarten are likely to struggle with reading by 3rd grade, an indicator that a child might drop out of school. This is a crisis – one that has a detrimental effect on our families, communities, and local economies. Through the power of public media, PBS SoCal endeavors to make a difference in the lives of children all over southern California.
