PBS SOCAL KICKS OFF SUMMER LEARNING WITH A NEW KIDS SCHEDULE

COSTA MESA, Calif. (June 7, 2013) – This summer, PBS SoCaL will provide families with a variety of free educational and engaging resources across all platforms, including an all new PBS KIDS programming line-up and local events, to encourage young learners to continue exploring over summer vacation.

Research shows that students experience significant learning loss when they do not participate in educational activities during the summer months, and that loss is even greater among children in low-income communities. To combat this summer slump, PBS KIDS has developed 10 weeks of themed programming to inspire children ages 2-8 to explore and learn. Each week will feature episodes from a different PBS KIDS series. For a complete list of the summer learning theme-weeks please visit pbssocal.org/summer.

"PBS SoCaL recognizes the importance of having access to educational activities and content to help children build key skills for success," said Jamie Myers, PBS SoCaL VP of Education. "These resources will provide Southern California area families a wealth of tools to keep children learning and engaged over the summer break."
