A Message from PBS SoCaL President, Mel Rogers

PBS Viewers and Friends,
In January of 2011, KOCE became PBS SoCaL and assumed its duties as Southern California’s new, full-service PBS station. As the media company that wears the PBS brand, we are honored to be the home to Masterpiece’s Downton Abbey, Antiques Roadshow, Frontline, Nature, NOVA, American Experience, the most trusted news on television, The PBS Newshour, and countless additional hours of quality shows.
We are even more proud of our role as California’s largest pre-school as Elmo, Big Bird, Sid the Science Kid, Curious George, and their friends prepare our youngest viewers to enter school “ready to learn” both on TV and online with PBS Kids Go!
We recently launched our first Southern California focused program, SoCaL Insider, and our giant educational initiative, The American Graduate Project, is now rolling out across the region as we partner with parents, educators and businesses to help reduce the dropout rate in our schools.
We are proud because PBS is the one brand that treats viewers as citizens, not customers. We are the keepers of our national soul…our art, our culture, our literature, and the embracing of diverse cultures and perspectives. Whether you engage with us via PBS SoCaL’s spectacular HD channel, PBS OC’s diverse mix of shows, or pbssocal.org’s online streaming and downloads, here you will find television that appeals to our higher selves. We approach issues based on scientific discovery and the best thinking of the age, not on bias, fear mongering or name calling. For us, what matters are the facts…the truth as we are best able to know it.
We are part of the biggest pre-school, largest stage for the arts, most far-reaching education, fairest journalism, and highest quality story-telling found anywhere. If these things are important to you, I hope you will do all you can to support PBS SoCaL and preserve these values and services for Southern California.
Sincerely,
Mel Rogers
President & CEO
