"The 49th Annual California Student Media Festival" was nominated for a 2016 Los Angeles area Emmy Award in the category of Best Children/Youth Programming.
PBS SoCaL is proud to present the California Student Media Festival. Now in its 49th year, the California Student Media Festival is our nation’s oldest student media festival. Over the past twenty years, the California Student Media Festival has awarded more than $140,000 to California Schools. It has expanded to include the work of more than 6,000 student contestants from schools across the state. The Festival exists to celebrate the amazing media and multimedia projects produced by California’s students and teachers — rewarding and acknowledging their successful classroom work at an awards event in June every year.
This year, cameras captured the process behind the winning films: how the students developed and implemented their ideas, the challenges they faced, and the lessons and skills they learned along the way. Many of the winning projects are featured in this program.
The program is produced by PBS SoCaL and is funded in part by Wells Fargo and The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and is part of PBS SoCaL’s American Graduate outreach initiative. For PBS SoCaL: Executive Producer– Brenda Brkusic, Executive Producer– Jamie Annunzio Myers, Associate Producer– Michelle Merker.
