At-Home Learning FAQs

At-Home Learning: PBS SoCal and KCET, in partnership with LAUSD and in collaboration with California PBS stations, are offering broadcast programming with digital resources that adhere to California’s state curriculum. Below are digital resources you can access to continue learning at home.

What is the collaboration between LAUSD and PBS SoCal/ KCET?

As a result of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) school closures due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we believe PBS SoCal and KCET’s contribution can have a positive impact on the continued learning for our students. As Southern California’s flagship PBS organization, we aim to keep the second largest school district in the nation well-informed and provide our students with educational resources via television broadcast and with online supplemental resources.

The health of both students and staff is of the utmost importance and we want to ensure that we’re taking every available precaution to keep our Southern California community safe.

Who does this initiative serve?

This plan we’ve developed alongside LAUSD will serve over 700,000 students, regardless of their capacity and capabilities, for their access to free educational resources at home both on-air and online.

If you live outside the Greater Los Angeles area, please check with your local station. We know that several other stations are adapting our model but schedules and programming might be different.

How will all students be able to access this resource?

PBS SoCal, KLCS and KCET will broadcast content specifically targeted to kids Pre-K through the 12th grade.

⦁    PBS SoCal (Daytime programming from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pre-K through 3rd grade)
⦁    KLCS-TV (Daytime Programming would highlight content for Pre-K through 12th grade from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with additional educational program in the evenings)
⦁    KCET (Daytime programming from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 9th grade through 12th grade)
⦁    Additional educational programming on PBS SoCal and KLCS digital channels

LAUSD teachers have been trained on how to utilize the PBS LearningMedia, a national resource that offers additional content to support educational assignments.

The PBS LearningMedia materials are offered in conjunction with the on-air content and also be available online.

I would love to see a particular program in the educational schedule?

We are working to get more programming rights. Please keep checking our weekly’s programming schedules for any updates.

Will PBS Passport login be suspended temporarily to give students access to all PBS SoCal content?
We are reviewing our PBS Passport offerings and a number of programs are now available outside of Passport membership. However, we invite our audience to enjoy our many great programs always available for free. Check out some of our top series and documentaries in the lists below:
