State Funds Will Support Multiplatform Arts Influencers Profiles to Inspire Interest and Involvement in the Arts
Los Angeles, June 25, 2018 – PBS SoCal announced it has received a $14,400 grant from the California Arts Council to produce new multiplatform profiles of Arts Influencers who, through social media, inspire a broad range of individuals to become interested and involved in the arts. The content will be a supplement to PBS SoCal’s weekly arts and culture program LAaRT.
“Southern California is rich with a thriving arts and culture scene that is as diverse as the community itself. The Arts Influencers project will identify and profile artists that will inspire a new generation of arts lovers,” said Andrew Russell, President and CEO of PBS SoCal. “We are grateful to the California Arts Council for this opportunity to continue to advance our mission, and support continued growth of the arts across our region.”
The California Arts Council grant supports nonprofit media projects that demonstrate a clear approach to building public awareness and support for the arts. The program is rooted in the California Arts Council’s vision to create a state where the arts are a central component of daily life and accessible to all, reflecting contributions from all of California’s diverse populations and fostering civic engagement.
PBS SoCal’s LAaRT offers a unique look at the people and events involved in the Southern California arts and culture scene. Intelligent, diverse and at times surprising, LAaRT gives the viewer an insider’s look into the creative process. The Arts Influencers content will broadcast on PBS SoCal channels and shared across its digital and social media platforms.
PBS SoCal is one of 16 grantees chosen for the Arts and Public Media Program award. The recognition was part of a $16.3 million investment made by the California Arts Council to arts programming statewide.
