In Los Angeles, the war on gangs has been a 30-year fight that has resulted in 450,000 youth arrests and deep conflict between law enforcement and communities of color. In the early 2000’s, the Urban Peace Institute (UPI) was formed to address this problem with a non-traditional approach. Bonnie Boswell speaks with former gang members and current Executive Director of UPI, Fernando Rejon.
