Long Beach Harbor

The Los Angeles River winds through L.A. County for 51 miles, running to the Long Beach Harbor. The harbor is a major point of commercial trade and a recreational center. During the summer, the Port of Long Beach hosts free boat tours. Downtown Long Beach is less than 2-miles away. There are also several waterfront parks and educational attractions like the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Queen Mary.

DIRECTIONS TO THE START

TRANSIT: Take the Metro Blue Line to Long Beach. Exit at the Convention Center/Downtown exit.

CAR: Take the 710 South to Long Beach. Follow the signs to Downtown/Aquarium.Merge onto Shoreline Drive. Take the ramp to Golden Shore Street. Park in any one of the metered lots.

Palm Beach Park

This little park overlooks the mud-flats at the estuary where the shorebirds gather. Metered parking is available off Golden Shore Street.

Shoreline Aquatic Park

Just beyond the spot where the L.A. River widens into the harbor. There's a lighthouse on a grassy hill, plus lots of meandering paths amid great vistas of the marina and surrounding area. Take a stroll starting at the Aquarium of the Pacific, go to the water, take a right and head along the water's edge. Curve around the beachfront areas, aiming for the lighthouse. Take the path that spirals up the grassy hill to the lighthouse.
