KCET Premieres Architectural Series, 'COOL SPACES' on July 3
Series explores public buildings and landscapes across the
U.S.
BURBANK, CA--June 26, 2014--KCET, the nation's largest independent
public television station, introduces an exciting new series, COOL SPACES!, which showcases the most fascinating architecture of the 21st century.
Each hour-long show focuses on buildings and spaces across the U.S. created by
daring architects and artists who push the boundaries of design, materials, and
process. The series debuts on KCET onThursday,
July 3 at 10 p.m.
Hosted by architect Stephen Chung,COOL
SPACES!
offersviewers an experience of design as never before: From napkin sketches to study
models of paper, clay, and cardboard to lyrical watercolors, we take
viewers behind the scenes -- not just in the physical sense, but right into the
architect's mind, exploring the design process before one wall is built. Chung asks obvious
questions that most of us would like to ask, such as: Who wanted this done? Why? What did they hope
to accomplish? Why do these buildings look and feel the way they do, and,
ultimately, what did it take to bring them to fruition? Over the course of a
single episode, he demystifies architecture by making it understandable and
approachable, allowing us to love and learn simultaneously. Each story proceeds
through a tapestry of voices, including not only the designers, but the many
people who use and enjoy these spaces, giving meaning to them on a daily basis.
Futhermore, COOL SPACES! is
unlike any other reality show about architecture, because all of the amazing
sites are open and available for the public to explore. Every episode will
encourage viewers to visit these places and experience the wonder for
themselves. Viewers
will be able to walk through New York, San Francisco, Chicago, or their own
hometown with newly opened eyes.
COOL SPACES! airs Thursday nights at 10 p.m. on KCET. For more information,
