KCETLink Launches Global News and Documentary Apps for Android?¢ and Apple?¢ Devices

Burbank, Calif. - August 27, 2013 - KCETLink news junkies

and documentary fans can now access global news, raw video and compelling films

while on the go. The series of free apps, LinkTV World News,

LinkTV

Daily Doc

and NewsMap, are currently available on iTunes or the

Google Play App stores today.

"Our new apps offer viewers and fans alike a way to stay

connected to the world around them while on the go through up-to-the minute

news video and global exchange of ideas," said Wendy Hanamura, Chief Digital

Officer, KCETLink. "We're pleased to make it easier for users to discover

timely news and world events, as well as groundbreaking films via their mobile

devices."

Generously funded by The Bertha Foundation, a leader in supporting social

impact media projects, following are descriptions of the free apps

currently available on the iTunes or the Google Play App stores.

The LinkTV World News

App

provides users with the opportunity to learn about the world through curated news video, videos from broadcasters like

as well as user-generated raw video of breaking events. The app also

offers users with a deeper context of new events through social commentary, articles

and short films. Available

iPad.

The LinkTV Daily Doc offers videos from KCETLink's vast collection of documentaries including Explore and

Earth

Focus

episodes, films from Journeyman Pictures and more.  The app offers a new documentary every day and allows users to watch each one for a week.

NewsMap gives users the opportunity to see news at it breaks on a comprehensive,

easy-to-navigate world map. When news hotspots erupt, NewsMap puts observers at

the scene and fuels global conversations about real-time events.

Launched in October 2012, the LinkTV

World News App for iPad was designed by Method, the award-winning

firm behind innovative media experiences including the BBC iPlayer and the NBC Politics

App. The robust app - rated the "Top 30 iPad App of

the Week" by The Guardian the week of its release - makes sense

of global events by connecting users to related articles, documentaries and

background information culled from more than 50,000 international news

sources. 

The Andriod apps were designed by

KCETLink developers and graphic designers.
