Hiker Rescued by Helicopter in Griffith Park
A hiker who became stranded on a hillside in Griffith Park was safely rescued this morning, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Crews were sent to an area near the Greek Theatre by ground and air at 8:46 a.m. and quickly found the adult male hiker, said spokesperson Katherine Main.
"The hiker was secured off the hillside by an LAFD paramedic and safely [airlifted] to the ground where he was evaluated," Main said, adding that he did not require transportation to a hospital.
In 2013, the L.A. Fire Department has responded to at least 30 hiker incidents in Griffith Park, according to records.
One of those was yesterday when two hikers spotted a dead body near Bee Rock. Firefighters removed it from a rugged area.
The name of the man, who was in his 40s, is being withheld, pending notification of his relatives, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter. An autopsy is also pending.
