My Thursday KCET pick: Cafe de los Maestros

There's no reason to leave home tonight.  Settle in for a great night of KCET programming tonight. At 8:00 p.m., SoCal Connected looks at California's new big business: marijuana. Correspondent John Larson heads along with U.S. drug agents into the National Parks, which have become the preferred new growing area for Mexican drug cartels. At 8:30 p.m. it's the Southern California broadcast premiere of the feature-length documentary Cafe de los Maestros. Earlier this summer we aired a 45-minute excerpt from this gorgeous film by Gustavo Santaollo, Walter Salles and Miguel Kohan. KCET viewers raved about the special. Tonight we present the entire film, which some have called the Buena Vista Social Club about the Tango world. It's a visual and musical treat. Here's the trailer for the film.">

Grammy and Oscar winning producer and composer Gustavo Santaolalla isalso profiled on The NewsHour blog site. The enormously gifted musician calls Los Angeles home part of the year. Santaolalla hopes for limited 2010 concert tour in the U.S. of some of the musicians and singers you'll see in this evening's broadcast of CAFE DE LOS MAESTROS. If the review from a summer 2009 stage performance is anything to go by, we're in for a treat. Till then, we hope you enjoy tonight's show.

Enjoy!
