Internet Pack Rats

My name is Ophelia, I have ten folders of Bookmarks, each one contains an average of 100 sites. And I can't stop. I am an Internet Pack Rat.

It is estimated there are over 109.5 million websites, and I have only bookmarked .000003669% of it. I had better catch up and start surfing the web more. But really, how much can you read? I don't time to wait for your flash open to load up, nor do I have time to scroll down to the bottom of the page. Don't even make me do more than three clicks to get to the good stuff, like David Bryne says "I ain't got time for that now".

Yes, my attention span is shorter, but I make up for it by absorbing more information in a small space of time. The shelf life of a website is short if the product is never rotated and brought to the front; just like your local grocery store, you never have to reach to the back to get that box of cereal, it's up front and easy to find.

Back to my bookmark hoarding. I bookmark all the sites that I know I will need to reference to later for work and for fun. Occasionally I will go back into the older folders to check out a once favorite site, only to find it gone, it's domain name up for the taking. I know I won't ever go back through the folders and clean out the bookmarks, they will just stay there forever, like boxes of newspapers taking up space in a Pack Rat's house. But my hoarding is made up of bytes, clutter that only takes up space on a hard drive. Looking at me, you would never know that there is a mountain sized pile of accumulated "blah blah blah" behind me. So I will just keep on bookmarking, pushing it into folders "Cool Stuff 100-200", until the weight folds over onto me and I sweep it all into my Trash and start anew.
