
Fine Cut 2014: 'New Year's Eve'
"New Year's Eve" is a short directed by CalArts student Eileen C Hsu. The film aired as part of the 2014 edition of "Fine Cut," KCET's 17th annual festival of student films.
"New Year's Eve" Synopsis:
A free-spirited younger brother keeps pushing his rigid older brother to loosen up and drink on Chinese New Year's Eve.
Eileen C Hsu's Bio:
Eileen C Hsu was born and raised in Taiwan. She moved to California with her family when she was 15. While finding her interest in visual storytelling at a young age, she started to explore graphic design and other media arts. With her personal experience, she is always interested in themes of self-identity and the lives of Chinese immigrant families in the US. After working as a motion graphic designer for several years, she decided to return to school to pursue filmmaking. Currently studying under the MFA film-directing program at the California Institute of the Arts, she hopes to expose herself to different possibilities, to write and work on the films that are close to her.
