Memories of the March
Col. Nathan Thomas Marches On
Col. Nathan Thomas was afraid to get off the bus he rode for four days to the March on Washington, fearing that he might be beaten or detained. He remembers the speeches that inspired him then and two years later when he marched in Selma, Ala., and was beaten bloody by police officers. Now, retired from the U.S. Air Force, he realizes how much those experiences taught him about his own courage.
