Dorothy Dewberry Aldridge Hears Dr. King in Detroit and D.C.

Detroiter Dorothy Dewberry Aldridge was 20 years old when she took part in the June 23, 1963 Walk to Freedom in Detroit. It was the largest civil rights march to date with an estimated 125,000 people. The event culminated at Cobo Hall where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered the first iteration of his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
