It looked as if a deal to build a new NFL stadium in the San Gabriel Valley might house the return of football to Los Angeles. That was before the developer behind L.A. Live and Staples Center swooped in with a new plan to build a stadium downtown and $700 million in backing from Farmers Insurance Group. Anschutz Entertainment Group, or AEG, says the plan won't cost the public a dime. L.A. Times columnist Steve Lopez has a few questions for the city before it rushes to close the deal.
