What Information do we gather and how do we use it?

We do not collect personally identifiable information (PII) from our visitors other than what you provide to us on a voluntary basis. Voluntarily provided PII can include, but is not limited to, name, email address, address, telephone number and credit card information.

Sweepstakes and Contests

From time-to-time, PBS SoCal may offer contests, sweepstakes and other promotions. If you enter one of these contests, sweepstakes or promotions, you will need to provide information about yourself (such as your name, address, telephone number and email address) so that we can administer and operate the contest, sweepstake or promotion (including contacting you if you win, fulfilling a prize and publishing a winners’ list). If you do not want us to collect the information requested in the registration form or to provide it to any of our affiliates, service providers and/or co-sponsor(s) as described below, please do not enter the contest, sweepstakes or promotion.

Additional personal information may unintentionally be collected if such information is provided in video recording, photographs, etc. that you submit. Personal information included in a video, recording, photograph, etc. is by its nature available to the general public and you should not submit recordings or photographs if you desire to keep any of the content private and we are not responsible for the use or misuse of such content by any party.

For users who furnish personal information in regard to sweepstakes, contests or promotions, PBS SoCal may use the information provided to administer said sweepstakes, contest or promotion and contact you with other PBS SoCal communications.


When you purchase products and/or services through our Website, we may ask you to provide us with certain information, including your contact details (such as your name, address, telephone and email), and your billing information (such as your credit card number and the date that your card expires). We may also ask you to provide additional information such as unique identifiers (such as your date of birth), and registration information (login name and password).

Membership and Donations

PBS SoCal has partnered with Blackbaud, Inc. to assist in the processing of transactions. Blackbaud, Inc. is a secure, simple way of donating online. Your safety is our utmost concern. We will never ask for banking passwords or social security numbers. All transactions made using Blackbaud, Inc. forms are transmitted via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). The SSL protocol is the industry standard method for creating an encrypted, secure connection between your web browser and a web server. Credit card and other information that you provide when making an online donation is provided securely to Blackbaud, Inc. for the purpose of processing and recording donations and pledge gifts.

PBS Passport Service

If you are viewing on-demand video on the PBS SoCal sites through the PBS Passport service or player, you have agreed that PBS may collect your viewing and usage information and that PBS may share this information with PBS SoCal. Your individual and usage viewing information will only be shared with PBS SoCal, but PBS may share aggregate de-identified viewing and usage information with its member stations and service providers, as well as PBS SoCal. PBS’s collection, storage, and use of Passport information is subject to PBS’s Terms and Conditions.


We may also offer you the opportunity to subscribe to email newsletters that we make available through the Website. If you opted to receive a particular newsletter, you may always unsubscribe later if you decide not to receive further mailings of the newsletter from us.

PBS SoCal may use your PII to provide the information or content you have requested to contact you or to fulfill prizes in connection with a contest or sweepstakes, to contact you about PBS SoCal programs, products, features or services or for other purposes disclosed at the time of collection. Data Collection

Online surveys, polls and all demographic information collected through the PBS SoCal Website are used for internal benchmarking and research. Identifying information is not disclosed to outside parties, other than PBS SoCal or used to contact users unless they have indicated that they wished to be contacted for follow up.

Web Beacons

Our Service may contain electronic images (called “single-pixel GIFs” or “web beacons”) or other tools that allow us and our Affiliates and Service Providers to count users who have visited particular pages of the PBS SoCal Website or other sites or applications, or to access certain cookies. PBS SoCal’s Children’s Privacy Practices

We recognize the need to provide further privacy protections with respect to personal information we may process from children on the PBS SoCal Website. PBS SoCal intends to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) standards regarding any portions of our Website that are directed to children under the age of 13 (e.g., the kids section under the Kids and Family sections). Upon your request, we will delete such information from our Website and files within a reasonable time period. You may, at any time, review and we will delete your child’s PII from any part of the Website that may have been unintentionally collected.
