Think Tanks Central To Russian Spy Drama
July 8, 2010
Last week came this mentionof think tanks and the recent FBI arrests of alleged Russian spies.
Now comes speculation of a swap, with the U.S. perhaps set to receive Russian prisoner Igor Sutyagin.
Sutyagin is, according to the LA Times story above, "a former researcher for the Moscow-based USA and Canada Institute think tank."
Readers, please confirm for TTLA that this is the correct homepage for the Institute. If so, then here's the 'about' text from that homepage:
"Institute securely occupies a leading place among research institutes, having become a "think-tank", a community of renowned specialists pursuing studies on the USA and Canada. ISKRAN is a main center providing recommendations for high-ranking state bodies in the matters of home, foreign and military policy and the problems of restructuring the Russian national economy. During the years of the Institute's existence its structure was changed more then one time, and the body of its researchers renewed, but the high-level of the conducted research and their practical value have never changed. Our page will provide you with information on the Institute itself, its latest publications, a list of works prepared in the Institute and a schedule of forthcoming scientific events held by the Institute."
