Calling all costume lovers, makeup fanatics, and hair aficionados: this screening series, programmed to accompany the latest exhibition in the Stories of Cinema: Identity gallery on the museum’s second floor, celebrates the costume designers, makeup artists, and hairstylists responsible for the unforgettable looks in some of the most beloved musical films of all time. From Dorothy’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz (1939) to a gown worn by Lena Horne in Stormy Weather (1943) and Elphaba’s and Galinda’s instantly iconic looks from Wicked (2024), this series brings masterful designs and fabulous creations to life in weekday matinees throughout the winter. Join us for these beloved musical films and revel in the spirited performances within.
Museum visitors who purchase general admission are welcome to join us for same-day screenings in this film series during their visit, free of charge. Screenings in this series are also free to Academy Museum members.
