Comics Fans Previewed Documentary on Alt Comic Book Series 'Love & Rockets' at KCET Screening Event Ahead of Season Premiere of Arts and Culture Series 'Artbound'
On Tuesday, Oct. 4, KCET celebrated the 13th season of Original series, "Artbound," with a private screening event premiering "Love & Rockets: The Great American Comic Book." The event took place at the Laemmle Theatre NoHo 7 in North Hollywood where close to 200 guests previewed an advance screening of the documentary followed by a moderated panel discussion with the comic creators and filmmakers. The event maintained COVID-19 safe protocols and was held ahead of KCET's Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. PT on KCET broadcast series premiere of the new season. Films will also be available for streaming at kcet.org/artbound and the PBS app.
KCET President and CEO Andrew Russell welcomed guests along with remarks from senior director of production, Angela Boisvert. After the screening, Los Angeles Times arts columnist moderator Carolina A. Miranda, facilitated a short panel discussion with comic creators Gilbert Hernandez, Jaime Hernandez along with filmmakers Omar Foglio and Jose Luis Figueroa of Dignicraft. A reception followed the screening at The Federal Bar in North Hollywood where guests celebrated the documentary as well as the 40th anniversary of the comic series all the while enjoying complimentary refreshments and appetizers.
The new season of "Artbound" will premiere with two back-to-back episodes starting with the documentary "Love & Rockets: The Great American Comic Book" on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. PT on KCET followed by "Duchamp Comes to Pasadena" on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 10:01 p.m. PT on KCET.
