Early Voting Has Begun in California: Here's Your Guide to the Props

California Secretary of State Debra Bowen said something today that's been technically true for decades, but not practically so until recent years. "With the ever-increasing popularity of voting by mail, Election Day has really become election month," she said in a press release.

Bowen is referring to the amount of the electorate that votes by mail instead of showing up at their polling place. During the '60s and '70s, under five percent voted absentee. This past summer for the Presidential Primary Election, over 65 percent voted by mail (even though total turnout was dismal). Expect that number to at least stay steady this November.
