People of Atwater Village: Edgar Melara

My name is Edgar Melara. I'm from originally from El Salvador. We came here at the age of three. We moved to Atwater probably like nineteen eighty-one or eighty-two, around that time. Since then I've been living around Atwater. It was a nice little neighborhood, everybody knew everybody.

When it snows my friend's dad used to go up in the mountains and bring snow back down in his El Camino and we would all have snowball fights in the middle of the parking lot here at the park. Or else we'd play baseball in the summertime, and play football right here at the park. Back then there was no internet or stuff like that, so kids could be kids and they could actually play in the streets you know. Or go ride bikes by the L.A. River.
