and misconceptions.BURBANK,
CALIF. - March 22, 2013 - A
new women's movement is underway that is debunking stereotypes and
misconceptions about women in the workplace.
During a recent Writers Bloc event at the Writers Guild Theater in
Los Angeles, Facebook's Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and Sony
Entertainment, Inc. CEO Michael Lynton participated
in a uplifting discussion about Sandberg's new book, "Lean In: Women, Work and Will to Lead." KCETLink produced the taped live
event as a special, which premieres on KCET
on March 25 at 8 p.m.
Sandberg,
one of the country's most powerful female executives, discussed gender
inequalities in the workplace and how many organizations operate through a
"quiet, unequal policy of access" without any realization. She expressed a
desire for her children to grow up in a balanced, fair environment where gender
stereotypes are not perpetuated at every turn, especially in business. When asked
by Lynton if she was a feminist, she countered by saying she would have been
insulted by that question 10 years ago because feminists "don't get dates," but
now argues that feminists get the "right dates."
A
conversational interview, Lynton and Sandberg rallied back and forth about how
different Fortune 500 companies would be if women were at the helm. They also
discussed the importance of mentorship and sponsorship from accomplished
industry predecessors in an effort to learn and achieve success in business, in
addition to family and workplace support. According to Sandberg, for women,
it's not about having or doing it all; it's about achieving goals, embracing
challenges and finding a balance.
"We're pleased to bring this powerful
discussion to our viewers with two of the country's most influential business
leaders," said Bohdan Zachary, Vice President, Broadcast, Syndication
