KCET's Open Call Presents a Musical Feast from The Colburn Orchestra on Thanksgiving Day

Burbank, CA - November 19, 2012 - KCET, the nation's largest independent public television station, brings viewers a 90-minute feast for the ears with inspiring classical music on a brand new episode of its original series, Open Call, airing Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22 at 9 p.m.

Hosted by acclaimed opera singer Suzanna Guzmán, this episode will showcase sounds from the acclaimed Colburn Orchestra during its annual gala performance at the famed Walt Disney Concert Hall located in Downtown Los Angeles.

Under the direction of Yehuda Gilad, the program features special guest conductor Sir Neville Marriner, founder of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, as well as 17 year-old Mayumi Kanagawa, a world-renowned violinist spotlighted on NPR's "Today's Young Artist" series and 2011 winner of the Irving M. Klein String Competition. The orchestra will perform classic masterpieces including: William Tell Overture by Gioachino Rossini Violin Concerto; Op. 14 by Samuel Barber; and Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar.

About The Colburn Orchestra
The Colburn Orchestra, under the direction of Music Director Yehuda Gilad, is the flagship ensemble of the Colburn School Conservatory of Music (founded in 2003) at The Colburn School in Los Angeles. The Colburn Orchestra regularly performs for Southern California audiences at venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall, Ambassador Auditorium, Royce Hall, Segerstrom Concert Hall and the Valley Performing Arts Center in Northridge. In addition to performances led by Yehuda Gilad, The Colburn Orchestra regularly performs with guest conductors including James Conlon, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Sir Neville Marriner, Gerard Schwarz, Michael Stern and Bramwell Tovey. Esteemed artists including  Jamie Laredo, Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman have also lead play/conduct performances, and outstanding conductors such as Kurt Masur and Nicholas McGegan have lead orchestral readings with the orchestra. Dedicated to serving the greater Los Angeles community, The Colburn Orchestra performs for schools in neighboring communities twice a year giving six concerts in a one-week period to school children of all ages.
