Burbank, Calif. - Jan. 7, 2014 - KCET,

the nation's largest independent public television station serving Southern and

Central California, welcomes the return of veteran journalist Bill Moyers'

Moyers

& Company

in a new, half-hour weekly format on Sundays beginning Jan.

12 at 5:30 p.m.

With the motto "Occupy Democracy," Bill Moyers continues

his popular weekly broadcast Moyers & Company on public television

after announcing his intention to retire last year. With an outpouring of

support from fans to remain on air, Moyers withdrew his decision to retire and

opted instead to continue with a half-hour version that will provide the

"flexibility to offer a forum to strong and provocative voices."

The first episode features a conversation with famed

astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium at the

American Museum of Natural History in New York.

Tyson was a natural choice as Moyers' first guest, as he is currently

completing a 13-part reboot of Carl Sagan's classic public television series,

Cosmos:

A Personal Voyage,

which has been seen around the world by more than 600 million people since its premiere in 1980. The new series,

Cosmos: A

Spacetime Odyssey,

produced by Sagan's widow Ann Druyan and Family Guy

creator Seth MacFarlane, will premiere on Fox and National Geographic in March.

Moyers & Company, distributed through American Public Television, engages guests on

intriguing topics ranging from politics and governance to faith and religion.

Moyers, one of the most prolific public broadcasting

figures for more than 40 years, is known for such groundbreaking series as

NOW

with Bill Moyers

and Bill Moyers Journal.  He has been a senior news analyst for CBS

News and senior correspondent for the acclaimed documentary series begun by

Edward R. Murrow, CBS Reports. His work has received more than 35 Emmys. He

presented was presented the Lifetime Emmy® Award in 2006 for "devoting his

lifetime to the exploration of the major issues and ideas of our time and our

country, and giving television viewers an informed perspective on political and

societal concerns."
