Los Angeles, CA – October 29, 2025 – PBS SoCal, Southern California’s flagship PBS organization, announced today the launch of the new SoCal Community Events Calendar, a digital hub showcasing free and low-cost arts and culture events happening throughout Southern California. The new calendar invites residents to explore a rich variety of local events around the region including live music and theatrical performances, unique museum exhibitions, independent gallery openings and community gatherings like markets and festivals. It also features arts and culture learning opportunities that include classes, workshops, lectures and talks at local institutions. Created for Southern California culture seekers to stay connected to local arts, culture and community, the calendar spotlights public events priced at $30 and under with a focus on free experiences across PBS SoCal’s 10 county service area including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Santa Barbara, Ventura, San Bernardino and beyond.

PBS SoCal curates a roundup of standout events happening across the region each week. PBS SoCal’s Senior Producer of Arts & Culture, Nic Cha Kim, individually selects the top “Weekly Editor’s Picks” to be featured on the landing page. To accompany this, the SoCal Community Events Calendar will launch a new Editor’s Picks newsletter on Fri., Oct. 31, with updates released on the first weekday of each month. Each edition will spotlight one event per week from PBS SoCal and local institutions, along with an additional standout event of the month. As part of an effort to expand visibility and engagement around these arts and culture programs, these curated selections will also be shared weekly across PBS SoCal’s Instagram and Facebook pages. To subscribe to the Events newsletter, visit pbssocal.org/newsletter.

For more details or to submit your own community events, visit pbssocal.org/ArtsCalendar. All submissions will be reviewed for consideration based on the following guidelines:

  • Within PBS SoCal’s service region
  • Open to the public
  • Non-partisan
  • Submitted at least two weeks in advance of the event start or opening date
  • Ticket prices do not exceed $30 per person

Preference is given to events that meet the following criteria:

  • Represent the diversity of Southern California artists, creative mediums, and topics
  • Feature community-based non-profits, experiences, and venues
  • Are available for a limited time (e.g., not an event that occurs once a month)

Through this new digital initiative, audiences can connect beyond broadcast and digital viewing experiences, inviting Southern California residents to come together to learn more about a topic, challenge assumptions and to connect with local organizations and experts. This offers audiences a unique opportunity to foster cultural connections, engage in hands-on learning experiences and participate in meaningful dialogue that amplifies local arts and culture institutions and celebrates the diverse creative voices that shape the region.
