PBS SoCal Original Production 'FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA' To Be Distributed by PBS Featuring America's Most Scenic Places Premieres Feb. 28

Los Angeles, Calif. – Feb. 15, 2022 – PBS SoCal, the home of the entire PBS schedule and a crucial educational resource for the Southern California region, announced an uplifting, musical travelogue presenting the most breathtaking places across the country in the new original production FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA. Combining footage shot at national parks, historic sites and hometown locales from around the country, the new program produced by PBS SoCal is a stunning visual portrait set to stirring music and a diverse collection of poetry meant to inspire viewers of all ages. FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA will premiere on Mon., Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. on PBS SoCal and will be broadcast nationally on PBS stations across the country.

“We hope this loving tribute to our country will inspire PBS Viewers to explore other states and meet some of their fellow Americans,” commented Executive Producer/Writer Maura Daly Phinney. “The program was inspired by the words of 12 American poets and features some of the most spectacular places in our country.”

Narrated by award-winning NPR newscaster Dwane Brown, the PBS SoCal Original production intertwines aerial and scenic 4K footage of American wilderness and public lands featuring a variety of music from critically acclaimed audience favorites, including internationally regarded contemporary artists like string ensemble the Vitamin String Quartet, award-winning composer, recording artist and pianist Emily Bear and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association.

Poetry and quotes from modern writers as well as classic authors are woven throughout the program and include selections from internationally acclaimed poet Dana Gioia and current U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo. Additional lines are featured from notable American writers Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Langston Hughes, William Carlos Williams and others.

Featuring spectacular video from all 50 states, FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA incorporates footage from the National Park Service and PBS member stations Alaska Public Media, Arkansas PBS, Detroit Public Television, Idaho Public Television, PBS Wisconsin and South Carolina ETV.
