Re-Imagining the Role of Parents, PBS SoCal Hosts Free Early Learning Event with Keynote Speaker Dr. Dana Suskind, Author of 'Parent Nation'

Los Angeles, Calif. – July 5, 2022 – PBS SoCal, the home of the entire PBS schedule and a crucial educational resource for the Southern California region, will host and implement a virtual EARLY LEARNING PARTNER CONVENING focused on “Reimagining the Role of Parents” on July 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. PT. The featured speaker is Dr. Dana Suskind, co-director of the TMW Center for Early Learning and Public Health at the University of Chicago as well as Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics and Director of the Pediatric Cochlear Implant Program. Joining her is Yolie Flores, National Campaign Director for the Building a Parent Nation Campaign. The collective efforts around family engagement in Southern California will be covered as will the sharing of tools, practices, and resources to support parents in helping all children reach their full potential. Following her keynote speech as an expert on parent engagement, Dr. Suskind and Ms. Flores will participate in a Q&A with attendees from organizations across the Southern California region. Following Dr. Suskind’s address, small break-out group discussions will take place allowing for peer-to-peer networking and discussion on community needs. The virtual partner gathering will serve as a springboard, vaulting community partners’ efforts forward in a more aligned, coordinated and collaborative way for greater overall impact in the future. With this event, PBS SoCal aims to create a clear sense of shared purpose, provide best practices around parent engagement and activate collaboration opportunities between organizations as well as create a shared sense of collaborative partnerships with the goal of advancing families’ learning.
