'SOCAL CONNECTED' Updates the Story of One Remarkable Woman Warrior's Struggle to Recover from Sexual Assault and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

, KCET's Emmy® and Peabody® Award-winning series revisits the

story of a female Army vet who overcame the trauma of war and sexual assault to

reclaim her health and sense of purpose. Angie Peacock joined the Army as the

idealistic daughter of a military family, but life in the armed forces did not

go as planned. After she was raped, her superior officers encouraged her not to

press charges. She was deployed to Iraq, where she witnessed a devastating

explosion. The combination of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and

military sexual trauma (MST) led to a medical discharge, addiction to pain

killers, divorce and several suicide attempts. This updated and inspiring

account of how Peacock found help through a Long Beach therapy program for

female vets, enrolled in college and even met President Obama is told by

anchor, Val Zavala. The story airs Wednesday, July 2,

2014 at 8 p.m.
