KCET Departures Receives NEA Art Works Grant
National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Rocco Landesman announced today that KCET is one of 832 non-profit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. KCET is recommended for a $25,000 grant to support Departures.
Departures is a hyper-local web documentary series and digital literacy program about the people, places, issues and history of Los Angeles' neighborhoods. In addition to the just-launched Little Tokyo installment and the currently in-production South Robertson, Departures has explored Highland Park, Chinatown, L.A. River, Richland Farms, and Venice. Special segments on The Great Wall of Los Angeles and Good Food Policy round out the projects so far.
"We are excited to be able to continue to study the culturally rich neighborhoods that define our region with help from this NEA grant, and share what we've mined with our audience in Departures' dynamic visually stimulating environment," said Juan Devis, KCET's Director of Production and Program Development and Executive Producer of Departures.
As part of our Youth Voices digital literacy initiative, we've recently partnered with The HeArt Project, an arts education program that works with at-risk youth and dedicated teachers to bring the arts into the classroom. More information and samples of student work can be found here.
