Evictions Moratorium, Anthony McClain, Lawmaking via Props

On the Oct. 26 edition of the Reporter Roundup, KPCC reporters discuss why landlords are challenging the local evictions moratorium, reactions to body cam footage of Anthony McClain’s shooting and why Californians were given the option to make laws via propositions.

Evictions Moratorium Lawsuit
The evictions moratorium in Los Angeles is facing a legal challenge from Southern California’s largest landlord group. Aaron Schrank explains what this means amid a patchwork of local, state and federal eviction protections for renters.

Anthony McClain Body Cam Footage
Robert Garrova has been taking a closer look at the case of Anthony McClain, the man who was killed by law enforcement in Pasadena in August. He describes reactions to body cam footage from use of force experts.

Propositions: Lawmaking by the People
As you make your way through all the propositions on this year’s ballot, you might wonder why California gives voters the ability to make law this way. Gina Pollack discusses how this system came to be as a way “to give power back to the people.”

Bonus: One-minute “Ballot Brief” explainer on Proposition 17 and voting rights for parolees.
