Celebrating Earth Month

On April 22, 1970, Senator Gaylord Nelson launched the first Earth Day to address the issue of environmental quality and resources conservation into the political agenda. An estimated 20 million people nationwide gathered to attend inaugural climate events across the USA. 

In December 1970, Congress authorized the creation of a new federal agency, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Since then, April 22 is regarded as the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement.
