SoCal Connected
Busy Intersections in the 1920s, '40s, and '50s
Complaining about traffic is a SoCal pastime, but rare historical footage from AAA of Southern California brings some insightful perspective. Film from the 1920’s reveals the hazards people faced before there were any traffic signals or painted lanes. People dashed between Model T’s to catch streetcars in the middle of the road without any protection. We also watch AAA film from the 1950’s taken of rush hour on the 110 Freeway. It’s bumper-to- bumper even back then. Val Zavala sits down with AAA Archivist Morgan Yates who reminds us how decades of traffic safety infrastructure has improved our lives.
