Why Don't People Vote in L.A.?

Next Tuesday, voters will cast ballots, not only in the mayor's race, but also for city controller, city attorney, council members, and members of the school board. Most of those eligible to vote probably won't bother.

Raphael Sonenshein is executive director of CSULA's Pat Brown Institute of Public Affairs, and he tells Madeleine L.A.'s dearth of voter participation is due to both apathy and something a bit more historical.
