'Gloria Bell' Shows Out at the 2019 Spring KCET Cinema Series
Following a screening of "Gloria Bell," screenwriter Alice Johnson Boher attended a Q&A hosted by Cinema Series host Pete Hammond. From Academy Award®-winning director Sebastián Lelio ("A Fantastic Woman," "Disobedience") and A24 Films comes a romantic comedy about a free-spirited divorcée (Julianne Moore) who spends her days at a straight-laced office job and her nights on the dance floor, joyfully letting loose at clubs around Los Angeles. After meeting Arnold (John Turturro) on a night out, she finds herself thrust into an unexpected new romance, filled with both the joys of promising love and the complications of dating, identity, and family.
A24 Films is an American independent entertainment company based in New York City founded by Daniel Katz, David Fenkel and John Hodges. Since 2018, the company has specialized in film distribution as well as film and television production. A24 has received a total of twenty-five Academy Award nominations including the film "Moonlight" which won the Oscar® for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali). Additional wins include Best Actress Brie Larson for "Room," Best Documentary Feature "Amy" and Best Visual Effects for "Ex Machina."
Born in Columbus, Georgia and graduating from Tulane University, Alice Johnson Boher is a recovering actor whose stand-up in New York begat solo performance in Los Angeles, where her shows "Saint Alice Of Chattahoochee" and "Bitch Trouble" earned praise. Alice holds an MFA in Writing for Film and Television from USC's School of Cinematic Arts.
