Website Merger: What You Need to Know
We've united our KCET and PBS SoCal websites to offer you a single, user-friendly hub for accessing your favorite content.
We've united our KCET and PBS SoCal websites to offer you a single, user-friendly hub for accessing your favorite content. This change addresses any audience confusion that arose since our merger five years ago.
While our linear TV channels remain separate, you can now stream both PBS national and local programs conveniently on our combined website or the free PBS App available on most of the streaming platforms (Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, and more). As TV viewing evolves, more viewers have embraced streaming.
Rest assured, our commitment to delivering high-quality, inspiring content and fostering community engagement for all ages remains unwavering. Having one website for PBS SoCal and KCET, with expanded streaming options, benefits everyone.
Why is the website now showing both KCET and PBS SoCal?
- As of five years ago we are now a merged company, and the combining of the websites is a logical progression of that merged organization.
- The merged website simplifies and drives more engagement with the programming and initiatives at both KCET and PBS SoCal.
Is the content on the website changing in any way?
No. We’ll continue to provide viewers’ favorite programs for streaming — both new locally-produced content and beloved PBS national content — as well as offer website visitors experiential ways to further engage with those programs on ONE convenient site. The merged website also provides the community with a greater diversity of programming options.
The merged site also offers visitors a more innovative and robust community engagement experience as well as the same educational services our communities have become accustomed to.
Will this change how I use the website?
It should make your life easier as you won’t have to go to two different websites to seek out content you love or information that is unique to one station or the other (example: the education content previously only lived on the PBS SoCal website).
Will visitors be re-directed to this new merged site if they type in URLs from KCET.org?
Yes — visitors will be automatically redirected to the combined website if they use an existing kcet.org address.
Both kcet.org/xxxx or pbssocal.org/xxxx will generate the same results as before the merging of the websites. If there is an issue or for some reason you cannot access content that you previously were able to, please let us know by emailing us at comments@pbssocal.org or by calling us at 714-241-4100 x4.
Will I still receive my KCET newsletter and/or the PBS SoCal newsletter?
Our last several membership newsletters that have gone out have been combined for both KCET and PBS SoCal members/viewers. Since the merger five years ago, KCET member messaging and PBS SoCal member messaging has continued to support both stations’ content and programming initiatives. That will not change. We will be sure to contact our members and make them aware of the convenience of putting everything onto one website as we continue to support our Mission to “Use the Power of Media for Public Good.” If you do not receive your newsletter, please let us know by emailing us at comments@pbssocal.org or by calling us at 714-241-4100 x4.
What will happen to my donation?
Since the merger five years ago, KCET member donations and PBS SoCal member donations continued to support both stations’ content and programming initiatives. That will not change. We will be sure to contact our members and make them aware of the convenience of putting everything onto one website. Any future donations made will continue to support our mission to “Use the Power of Media for Public Good.” If there is an issue, please let us know by emailing us at comments@pbssocal.org or by calling us at 714-241-4100 x4.
Will my login information still work?
Yes, your login information still works for both sites and will continue to do so. If there is an issue or for some reason you cannot access, please let us know by emailing us at comments@pbssocal.org or by calling us at 714-241-4100 x4.
What are PBS SoCal/KOCE and KCET doing together?
Five years ago, we merged to become one organization responsible for Southern California’s two flagship PBS stations KCET and PBS SoCal. Through the merging of the two websites, we wanted to make it easier and more convenient for our visitors.
How will this affect the channels I watch?
There will be no change to how each station currently functions outside of the web experience, as their respective programs and programming schedules are not affected by the merged website. We will continue to broadcast seven channels over the air in Southern California: (PBS SoCal 1, PBS SoCal 2, PBS SoCal World, PBS SoCal KIDS, KCET 28.1, KCETLink 28.2, NHK World Japan 28.3).
