Youth Voices

A digital literacy and civic engagement program that invites youth on an exploration of their neighborhood, where they investigate the social, cultural, and political history and take a critical look at the issues facing their community. Students are encouraged and provided opportunities to become leaders and advocates for their community.

Battambang is a Cambodian Chinese restaurant that was bought in 2003. The owners take pride in being mentioned by the Los Angeles Times. The one really cool thing is that my aunt and uncle own and operate the restaurant.
Chinatown Branch Library is a public library located in Chinatown. Many different age groups come here to read a large selection of books and play with the computers. I interviewed my friend Christine who goes with me when we do homework.

Chinatown's Gold Line has provided great access to local residents and the rest of the city; it has served to be a major convenience to Chinatown's working class (some of which do not own cars).

In Venice, students went to out their personal places and captured them with video, photography, and sound. They filmed video interviews, portraits, snapped pictures, and recorded soundscapes.
