More than 75 percent of the world’s best surf breaks are in areas where highly biodiverse ecosystems like coral reefs, coastal forests, and mangroves are in critical need of protection. These irreplaceable marine and coastal ecosystems are threatened by unsustainable development, habitat destruction, pollution and climate change. Breath(e) artist Michael Joo joins Scott Atkinson, founder of Conservation International’s Surf Conservation program, Chad Nelsen, CEO of Surfrider Foundation, and Breath(e) co-curator Glenn Kaino for a discussion of how the surf community’s deep connection to the ocean can be harnessed for innovative approaches to ocean conservation.
