Cal State LA presents the third annual Sounds of the Underground festival and symposium, part of the university’s Sounds of the Underground initiative. Founded in 2023 by lifelong music lovers with roots in Los Angeles, the initiative documents, studies, and preserves the city’s vibrant and ever-evolving underground music scene.

A three-day celebration of Los Angeles’ underground music culture, featuring documentary screening and keynote conversation, a research symposium, and a community festival with live performances. The event highlights Cal State LA’s commitment to preserving and elevating LA’s diverse musical history while engaging students, scholars and the public.
