California School Gardens Can Now Sell Their Produce

A bill that will allow schools to sell their garden produce and reinvest the money in their garden programs has been signed by Governor Jerry Brown.

AB 2367, written by Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla (D-Concord), is careful to mention that schools must follow all "applicable federal, state, and local health and safety requirements for the production, processing, and distribution of the produce."

Health and safety requirements are infamously difficult to comply by and maintain -- though we suppose that could become part of the educational benefit of gardens for students. Show them what bureaucracy is all about.

Joking aside, we applaud Brown for signing this progressive bill into action.
